And while he knew these feelings were wrong, he also secretly enjoyed them

9. Fever!

George jolted awake, drenched in sweat, his heart pounding in his chest. The dream had seemed so real and he couldn’t shake off the unsettling feeling that he’d actually enjoyed himself. Knowing he was so powerful was a fantastic feeling. He also liked how the other factory workers were in awe of him. It made him feel so important. But something about the feeling was also unsettling: What if he’d met some small, insignificant people like Alice outside the factory gates? How might he have treated them? Would he have even cared about their safety?

It was a weird mix of the familiar and the foreign, a sort of déjà vu that reminded him of when he’d been to a rifle range and fired a powerful handgun. It had given him the same thrilling feeling of power and, for a moment he could almost understand why gun owners in the United States were so opposed to gun laws, even if it meant an occasional school shooting. He didn’t want to admit it, even to himself. Still, being inside the dragon it was hard to deny that thrill of that unlimited status and power.

But then, suddenly he remembered he was seeing Alice in a few hours to plan how they were going to make Dragon change his ways.

He wondered whether to tell her about his dream. It might help them understand the Dragon, but he also felt ashamed of his feelings so, on reflection, he decided some things were probably best left unsaid, especially where dragons were concerned.
